QUICK PASS, - Lot 80
QUICK PASS, BETTERWAY automaton, Vienna, Austria, 1930s. Carved wood and painted cut-out wood window display, electromechanical 110 volts. It portrays a mother and her daughter in a chequered kitchen, one passing potatoes through a masher while the other pours the potatoes. The movements are produced by a small electric motor that drives pulleys, belts and rods. 80x61x31 cm. (In working order) Reproduced in the catalogue the exhibition "Automates de Pub", from the New National Museum of Monaco, summer 2008, page 31 and under N°81 page 75 of the "Automates publicitaires" by Daniel Bordet. The composition of the characters and their staging seems to be inspired by Sophie Teauber Arp's doll creations or Fernand Léger's geometrical compositions.
