CHINA - KANGXI Period (1662 - 1722) - Lot 68
CHINA - KANGXI Period (1662 - 1722) Porcelain plate decorated in blue under cover of the landscape known as "Deshima Island". Three peasants and a cow are walking in a European landscape. (Chips, crack). Diam. 20 cm. For a long time this scenery was called "Deshima Island" (near Nagasaki), where the VOC headquarters were located between 1641 and 1862. But this decoration represents rather the Dutch town of Scheveningen. Reference: Chinese porcelain in a Norman Manor, a story of "blue and white", by Alain Saint Loubert Bié, p.114 Similar reference: held in the Hodroff Collection and in the Winterthur Museum (Switzerland), reproduced in Howard, The choice of the Private Trader, p.44, no. 11.
