JEAN ROYÈRE (1902–1981) Pair of “Boule” model armchairs, known as “Ours Polaire,” featuring a distinctive enveloping structure of curved beech wood, upholstered—as is the seat cushion—in midnight blue wool velvet, resting on four cylindrical legs shaped like polished wooden logs. 96 cm x 95 cm, height 70 cm. Designed in 1950. From a private French collection; reupholstered by the current owner in the 1980s. Bibliography: Le Décor d’Aujourd’hui magazine, No. 67, 1951; the model is reproduced on pages 60–62 in an article about Jean Royère’s interior design for the reception rooms of the new French legation in Helsinki; Galeries J. Lacoste & P. Seguin, Paris, 2012, Volume 2, model and variations described and reproduced on pages 46 and 47.
