[CLEMENTI (Muzio)]. Clementi's Selection of Practical Harmon - Lot 7
[CLEMENTI (Muzio)]. Clementi's Selection of Practical Harmony for the Organ or Piano Forte containing Voluntaries Fugues, Canons & other Ingenious Pieces by the most eminent Composers To which is prefixed an Epitome of Counterpoint by the Editor. London, Printed by Clementi, Banger, Collard, Davis & Collard, s. d. [1811]. 2 volumes in a large Italian-style folio, beige half-basin with corners (contemporary binding).
145 and 157 pp. A rare original yet didactic edition, the breviary of the instrument that Clementi held so dear (Grove 4, 490). The "eminent composers" are none other than Agostini, Albrechtsberger, Bach and his sons, Caresana, Eberlin, Fasch, Frescobaldi, Handel, Haydn, Kirnberger, Marpurg, Martini, Mozart, Perti, Porpora, Scarlatti, Telemann, Turini and Umstatt, whose most beautiful musical pages Clementi gives us to read (very fine engraving), or at least those he considers as such.
Good condition inside, apart from the first title page, which is short on the outer margin, and handwritten tables on two ruled in-4° pages in Italian style at the beginning of the volume, then in the introduction to Volume II. Binding heavily rubbed, covers and corners damaged.
