CHERUBINI (Luigi). Les Deux Journées, opera in three acts, l - Lot 6
CHERUBINI (Luigi). Les Deux Journées, opera in three acts, lyrics by Bouilly. Paris, Gaveaux, 26 Nivôse an 8 [pl. "I", 1800]. Large folio volume, red half-chagrin, spine decorated with gilt fillets and title (period binding). 308 pp. Large score of this lyrical comedy in three acts, performed at the Théâtre Feydeau on January 16, 1800. For Clément and Larousse, "the beautiful music of the Florentine Master could not save such a poem" (i.e., this libretto too much influenced by Bouilly?). Title page partly recomposed, with dedication to Gossec preserved. Minor damage to binding (lower jaw partly split), very slightly posterior (fine engraved label of "Susse, papetier, Passage des Panoramas n°7 en entrant par le Boulevard Frascati" on first endpaper, circa 1810). On the first board, engraved ex-dono of tenor and composer Fabry Garat (1772-1851), brother of the great Garat and nephew of Dominique Joseph Garat, who pronounced Louis XVI's death sentence. Small handwritten label has been glued to the spine.
