Height: 14 cm Width: 14 cm. Diameter: 7.4 cm Bibliography Deux siècles d'orfèvrerie à Strasbourg, XVIIIe-XIXe siècles dans les collections du musée des Arts décoratifs , Les Musées de Strasbourg. N°139 p251. Notes : Jacques Frédéric Kirstein (1765-after 1795), from a dynasty of silversmiths, specialized in Strasbourg in high-relief chasing of small panels in precious metals, often with hunting themes. Originally, Kirstein's small round or rectangular reliefs were designed to adorn snuffboxes, showcasing the virtuosity of their chasing. Some were also mounted in frames, like small paintings intended to hang on the wall. This is the case with our pair. A medallion representing Le cerf coursé par le chien, preserved in the collections of the Museums of Strasbourg, originally formed the lid of a box (inventory no. 33.004.0.109).
