Michelangelo SLODTZ (1705-1764), attributed to - Lot 34
Michelangelo SLODTZ (1705-1764), attributed to Terracotta statue of the god Neptune, right arm outstretched, wearing a drapery. First half of the 18th century. Height 201 cm (restorations, parts redone) Provenance : - Galerie Kugel, Paris. - Private collection, Paris. Formerly attributed to Pierre Puget (1620-1694) by comparing our work with the figure of Saint Jerome dated 1691 (1), it seems that our sculpture is more closely related to the works of the Slodtz family of the early 18th century (2). The treatment of the draperies and the pose of the figure can be compared with a drawing of Apollo by Michelangelo Slodtz (3), as well as with a marble head of Chryses, the terracotta model of which is in the National Museum, Stockholm (cf. 3).
