[VOLTAIRE]. La Pucelle d'Orleans. Poem. Divided into fifteen - Lot 334

[VOLTAIRE]. La Pucelle d'Orleans. Poem. Divided into fifteen books. Louvain [Francfort], 1755. In-12, fawn half-chagrin ribbed spine (mid-20th c. binding) [IV] (title & preface) + 161 pp. ORIGINAL EDITION printed without the author's consent, probably by La Beaumelle in Frankfurt. "Edition A" with the words "par Monsieur de V***" on the title between two double horizontal lines, and the first page of the preface at 10 lines. The blank leaf in fine is lacking: some foxing. "The first editions of La Pucelle therefore date from 1755. [...] The two editions bearing the indication of Louvain, both have: 1 title page, 2 uncounted pages for the Preface and for the Preface and 161 pp. [...] It is obvious that one of these editions was made on top of the other". (Bengesco, I, 478): Brunet, V, 1361: Quérard, X, 304.
