Jean-Baptiste LULLY. Armide. Tragedy set to music. Paris, À l'Entrée de la Porte de l'Académie Royale de Musique au Palais Royal, ruë Saint-honoré, 1710, large in folio, contemporary full calf, 6-rib spine, ornate caissons; title, privilege, 188 pp.
Again a "Second edition engraved by H. de Baussen", famous for its finely engraved frontispieces in the prologue and opening acts, pp. 1, 63, 92, 124, 121, 152. A masterpiece according to informed opinion, first published in 1686, a year before the death of the Master, whose penultimate composition it was, and for which he was assisted by Quinault, himself inspired by Le Tasse.
Joints split, title-piece missing, boards rubbed and corners dulled. Fine handwritten ex-dono "Melle Regnard" on first music page, very good condition inside.
