One engraved portrait of the author after LATOUR, 30 engraved plates after MOREAU, LE BARBIER, MAYER, etc. 15 folded plates of musical scores and a facsimile of a letter from Rousseau (vol. I will obey you at all times, for it is // up to you to tame the Monsters. // I will therefore do your bidding, Madame, on the days it // pleases you to prescribe. I know that M. d'Alembert has // the honor of courting you: his presence will not // drive me away: but do not think it wrong, I beg you, that any // other third party should make me disappear. // I am
with deepest respect // Madame // Your most humble and obedient servant // J.J. Rousseau."
ATTACHED: a loose leaf handwritten in brown ink in volume 15 (p. 93): "Confession de J J Rousseau // T. 2 P. 93".
From the Bernard Minoret library, with bookplate.
Scarce foxing: some spotting on boards: worm work on second board of volume 10 but,
GOOD ENSEMBLE.
