GROUPE XYLOS (1980) - Lot 198
GROUPE XYLOS (1980) "Moonstone Carbon-fiber champagne ball with the appearance of a polished lava stone ball inlaid with fossils, mother-of-pearl and Carrara marble. An undetectable mechanism provides access to a storage space for three bottles of champagne, including a magnum and eighteen Veuve Clicquot glasses. The reverse side of the lid is inlaid with an oxidized oak checkerboard, while the inside of the box is finished in aquatic lacquer and faded olive ash veneer. The whole unit is mounted on a double gimbal system enabling the ball to be moved without the interior leaving its balanced position. Diameter: 76 cm Edition Xylos - 01.2010 "Developed for a champagne connoisseur, the mysterious sphere reveals its secret with a simple click... Inside, three bottles of chilled champagne, or a magnum and a bottle as the case may be, are coiled in a gear like an industrial cog... This magic ball rolls on itself thanks to the ingenious mechanism developed by Xylos artists. Made of resin, seashells and marble powder, its interior is inlaid with a small checkerboard of precious woods to protect the champagne nectar, provoking astonishment, conversation and admiration."
