Eau et gaz à tous les étages ou Sur Marcel Duchamp, Éditions Trianon, 1959, in folio (35 x 26.5 cm), copy numbered Q on Crèvecoeur d'Arches-Marais paper, signed by Duchamp and Lebel, edition of 137 copies including 17 numbered from A to Q, intended for the author, the artist, the publisher and the contributors to the work, very good general condition inside.
Copy complete with :
- the text in sheets including the catalog raisonné of Duchamp's work and the black & white and color illustrations.
- brick-colored cloth slipcase, lined with reproductions, slight wear and soiling to slipcase.
- Le Grand verre, phototype and stencil mounted under rhodoïd on a hinged panel with magnetic closure, unsigned, deformations in the rhodoïd as in most copies, the paper frame partially detached.
- Self-portrait in profile, blue paper cut on black velvet, signed Marcel dechiravit and numbered 100 Q, small scuff marks on the felt.
- the ready-made Eau & Gaz à tous les étages, signed in white ink M.D., some abrasions along the edges of the enamelled plate, scratch in the lower right-hand corner at the A.
First edition of the first catalog raisonné of Duchamp's works between 1902 and 1958, by art critic and collector Robert Lebel. This is the first published monograph on the famous artist, produced in 6 years in such close collaboration with the artist that it is almost considered part of his oeuvre.
