[VIEILH DE VARENNE (R.-A.)]. [Collection entière des drapeau - Lot 62
[VIEILH DE VARENNE (R.-A.)]. [Collection entière des drapeaux de l'armée nationale parisienne]. S.l.n.d. [Paris, L'Auteur, 1789], 2 vols. in-4°, marbled calf, smooth spines with title label, blue edges (period binding).
Collation: 60 plates.
Suite of a frontispiece interpreted after Moreau le Jeune and 60 copper-engraved plates numbered 1 to 60.
Given to the engraver Raymond-Augustin Vieilh de Varenne (17..-18..).
Numbered according to the division of Paris in force since April 1789, the plates show the flags of each district, each supported by a national guard, whose appearance is never the same.
The flags feature revolutionary emblems, religious, patriotic and royalist markings...
They were destroyed in application of the law of August 27, 1792.
This copy was colored at the time, and the colors are still very fresh. Some flags appear to have been enhanced with gold.
The plates, each protected by a serpente, have been captioned by hand.
It was given to Georges Meunier by P.-J. Cavelier.
Without the frontispiece, which is often missing.
Dimensions: 276 x 208 mm.
Provenance: Georges Meunier.
Tourneux, II, 6712.
