ORIGINAL EDITION for the Memoirs of Mademoiselle de Mainville.
Second edition of the abbé de Choisy's account of his gallant adventures, written by himself; dressed as a woman, he indulged in the libertinism permitted by this disguise under the name of comtesse des Barres.
A copy bearing the coat of arms of Louis Robert Hippolyte de Bréhan, comte de Plélo (1699-1734).
He combined a brilliant military career, which cost him his life, with an ardent passion for books. His library passed to his son-in-law, the Duc d'Aiguillon.
We did not find this copy in the 1792 catalog of Louis de Bréhan's library.
The latter was organized in batches, each containing numerous titles, of which only a few are briefly described.
Joints fragile, particularly that of the upper board split on two boxes.
Dimensions: 194 x 78 mm.
Provenance: Esmerian (Cat. II, 1972, no. 103), with his bookplate.
Gay, III, 138 and II, 520; Olivier, 1715.
