JAPAN - EDO period (1603 - 1868), 17th - 18th century Armor composed of - koshozan hoshibashi kabuto with 64 slats, signed Haruta Katsusada zo. Shikoro with six slats of kiritsuke kozane type with blue laces monogara kebiki odoshi. - ressei type menpo in black lacquered iron, with grey horsehair moustache, yodarekake with four slats with blue laces kon ito sugake odoshi - ni mai tachido type breastplate with monogara odoshi laces, kusazuri with four hon kozane type strips, decorated in their lower part with maru ni futatsu biki and go shichi no kiri type môn - haidate decorated with rectangular plates on a mesh background - chu sode with six blue laced strips - shino gote, rectangular plates and mesh on silk brocade - shino suneate, reinforcements and mesh on silk brocade Haruda Katsusada was an armourer active in the 17th century in Owari province. He is famous for his particularly resistant helmets, of which there are very rare examples with 72 slats with protruding rivets. The combination of môn found on the lower part of the kusazuri is difficult to attribute to a family with certainty, however it could have been used by three large known families: the Hatakeyama family of Takaya in Yamashiro, the Hosokawa family of Mikawa in Shikoku and the Imagawa family of Fuchu in Suruga.
