TRAVELS - FIGUEROA]. The Embassy of D. Garcias de Silva Figueroa in Persia, containing the politics of this great Empire, the manners of King Schach Abbas, & an exact Relation of all the places of Persia & the Indies, where this ambassador was during the eight years he stayed there. Translated from the Spanish by M. de Wicfort. In Paris, by Jean Du Puis, 1667. In-4° (188 x 253 mm), brown morocco, double framed with gilt fillets à la Duseuil on the boards, coat of arms in the centre, spine with ornamented nerves, gilt edges, large gilt lace inside (period binding). First French edition (shared with the publisher Louis Billaine) of one of the first books on Persia, containing notably one of the oldest descriptions of Persepolis. It is given in a translation by Abraham de WICQUEFORT, Brandenburg ambassador to the French court († 1682). From the Comte de Lagondie library, with bookplate (March 1878) and coat of arms reported on the boards. Boards very slightly rubbed; endpapers renewed; some light foxing; small stains and small wetness at the head of some leaves, but a fine copy in DUSEUIL style leatherette. Palau, 313613.
