[BINDING in HARDWARE with ARMS]. CICERON & alii. [To the exp - Lot 108
[BINDING in HARDWARE with ARMS]. CICERON & alii. [To the explicit:] Florentiæ [Florence], Per Haeredes Philippi Iuntæ, 1510. In-12 (100 x 165 mm), black morocco, boards fully decorated with alternating gilt coats of arms and pieces of arms, traces of lakes, spine decorated with fleur-de-lys head and tail, black edges (period binding). Florentine edition of Latin authors given by Junta in 1510. A few small accidents and old restorations to the binding; title page lacking; last leaf detached and a few other small defects inside, but A MARQUIN COPY with the ARMS of Anne of BRITAIN, Duchess of BRITAIN & Queen of France (1477-1514), wife of King Louis XII († 1515), FROM HER LIBRARY. This copy bears on the boards and in the frame an alternation of fleur-de-lys, ermines, geometric cordelières of the Order of the Cordelière and another symbolic figure (a vase bearing a lily stem), and, in the center, the arms of Brittany surrounded by a cordelière and, on either side, four coats of arms of France, two hedgehogs, four ermines, two other symbolic motifs, four scrolls, and six half-lys towards the outside of the frame. This binding is to be compared with the one made in red calf on a work by Giovanni Francesco Conti Stoa by the workshop of Simon Vostre in 1514 (B. N. F., Réserve, Vélins-2125).
