Necklace - Lot 11
Necklace in 18K (750) gold, articulated with falling oval shaped amethysts. Work from the first quarter of the 19th century. Length: about 46 cm. Goal weight: 42.6 g (shortages, alterations) Fashion in jewellery in the 1820s favoured stones with shimmering colours such as citrines, topaz and amethysts, which were less expensive than diamonds and flattering for all skin tones. The arrival of fine stones from Portugal, linked to the discovery of new mines in Brazil, favoured this craze. Claudette Joannis, Bijoux des deux Empires (1804-1870), Paris 2004
